The adage “you can’t manage what you don’t measure” is particularly true of energy management. The first step to reducing energy consumption is the installation of accurate and high temporal resolution metering systems, often referred to as smart meters. For industry and business the benefits of the adoption of this technology are obvious and increasing legislation requires their installation.

As part of a holistic approach to energy management of a system no matter how large and complex, monitoring plays a linch-pin role providing interconnection between design and implementation. Without accurate monitoring and correct analysis of the data collected, ground breaking sustainable design and application have, at best no credibility and, at worst no information as to whether the concept works or not. Modern data collection methods allow vast quantities of data to be automatically pooled and analyzed to provide guidance, in the short term on system operation and in the long term, indications of overall performance.

There are a number of services that S&G provide to support business customers in meeting requirements on reporting of their energy performance. These include:

  • Developing carbon emission inventories and footprints
  • Developing protocols for accounting and reporting
  • Data management systems
  • Carbon footprinting and development of greenhouse gas inventories (historical and forecast), including baseline determination
  • Transparent and credible performance reporting
