To those who own a range cooker (Aga, Esse, Rayburn, Everhot etc) they almost become part of the family: day in day-out providing heating, cooking and something to lean on when you're telling a joke in the kitchen. However, spiralling fuel costs (range cookers usually run on oil) are threatening this beloved position as owners start to feel the pinch of what can seem like an expensive method of heating and cooking. Research by Save & Generate, looking at the running costs of cast iron range cookers and stoves, is investigating how solar power and intelligent control systems can help reduce running costs.

The renewable heat incentive (RHI) is a incentive payment for each unit of renewable heat generated for use in the built environment. The tariffs for each technology have been announced this morning. Unfortunately DECC have stalled again for domestic projects and launched tariffs that only cover industrial, commercial and public sector installations and a grant scheme to plug the gap until they sort out the domestic tariffs.

Feedback from over 20 Welsh farmers was analysed by organisers of a farm energy advice clinic run by Save and Generate. The results revealed an overwhelming level of satisfaction and encouraging signs that they take action on advice given.
