For completeness we offer the following small snippets from the world of background information on sustainable energy living.

Why Save & Generate? Why cut down on your energy use and start generating your own electricity?
The primary reason for homeowners is that in many cases it makes economical sense: The money saved on energy bills can rapidly pay back the cost of installation. Incentives and grants from the government are designed so that even expensive technologies such as photovoltaic systems if installed correctly have a reasonable return on investment over the lifetime of the system. Use the S&G technology cost calculators to get estimates on payback and return on investment. Find out more on how to lower you energy bill.
Beyond simple economics (but still very much linked to it) there are 4 main drivers or reasons to Save & Generate:
- Climate change: The best way to tackle the potential problems associated with climate change is by limiting our impact on the world. We can look to governments to lead the way, but ultimately it is down to each of our own responsibilities and choices to make the necessary changes to our lives to mitigate the impacts we are having on future climate change and to adapt to those possible changes.
- Resource depletion: The impacts of our increasingly consumption-orientated society are rapidly leading to the depletion of those key resources on which our society depends. The reversal of such consumer trends along with the search for new and ideally renewable resources are key to our long-term sustainable future.
- Security of energy supply: As traditional fossil fuels sourced from volatile regions in the world are gradually running out it will become increasingly important to reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels. The UK is a large importer of oil and coal and in the past few years with the depletion of the north sea gas reserves we are now a net importer of gas. To ensure a secure energy supply we need to start using less fossil fuels which means finding other sources of energy and being more careful with the energy we use.
- Quality of Life: Whether continued economic growth is the key to our long term happiness is a matter of debate. But to achieve a less wasteful and more sustainable lifestyle is sure to add to your quality of life.
S&G set out to help you to achieve the above and lead the UK towards a sustainable energy future. Find out more here.
